It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes because an excellent spirit was in him, and the king thought to set him over the whole realm (Daniel 6:1-3 KJV).

I want to focus on the word excellent. Excellence means extremely good. I believe it means to be past the standard of what is expected. In the workforce, you are evaluated on your performance of a task that grades you on a scale. Some agencies seek to limit individuals to be a grade of excellence or exceeding standards. Because the believer serves a supernatural God, excellence is our portion. We have the download of the Holy Spirit in us. The Holy Spirit gives us the ability to do exceeding and abundantly all that we can think or ask according to the power that worketh in us.

Everything God has called us to, there is a grace to do it with excellence. This gift of excellence in Daniel caused him to come before a great man by the name of King Darius. He had an excellent spirit in him. His favor caused him to skip the line to go to the front of King Darius’ choice. Daniel was set over the whole realm. Do you think the presidents and princes were happy about Daniel’s promotion? They could not celebrate him because they were hoping to get that spot. There are times when God will skip you to the front of the line on your job as well as in ministry. Many won’t celebrate you. They will just tolerate you.

Daniel’s gift brought him before King Nebuchadnezzar. He was able to interpret the king’s dream. None of the astrologers, soothsayers, and magicians could interpret the dream. Daniel was aware that the wisdom of God gave him the answer to the mystery. God is the revealer of the deep and secret things. The king rewarded him with great gifts and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and the chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon.

This is what a spirit of excellence will do for you. It can also open doors for those connected to you. I believe Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego had a spirit of excellence. Daniel got them appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon. Watch who you connect with.
